hololive production’s official app, “holoplus,” was released in August 2023, with the tagline “All about your Oshi. One app”
The app not only lets users keep up with the latest updates on their favorite talents, but also offers features that enable interactions between talents and fans, as well as among fans. Recently, its use has expanded further, with some of the talents featuring holoplus on their streams.
What does holoplus mean to hololive production, and what does the company hope to be in the future? As holoplus reaches its third anniversary, we interviewed T, the team manager of the holoplus Team in the Commerce Department, who is responsible for the app's planning and operations.
What Kind of App Is holoplus?─A Haven for Our Talents and Fans
──Could you tell us again what kind of app holoplus is?
It is a platform that aggregates and delivers all kinds of information about hololive production talents. On top of that, it offers user-participation features, such as real-time polls and “holoQ,” a feature that lets users post anonymously on a specific topic. One of the app’s major strengths is that it offers not only official content but also user-generated content as well.
──Why did you decide to enhance user-participation features?
Because we believe that user-generated content is an inseparable part of VTuber culture. VTuber culture has evolved thanks to fans actively sharing content, such as video clips and fan art. Since fan-shared content is just as important as the content talents produce, we didn’t want to draw a line between them.
──What principles do you keep in mind when managing holoplus?
One is valuing our users. From the very beginning, our goal has been to build “the warmest community in the world,” and we’ve striven to create a welcoming space for users who’ve downloaded the app, focusing on what they want to do and share.
Another is our talent-centric policy. We operate holoplus with a strong desire to turn our talents’ ideas into reality whenever possible and are also constantly thinking about what features would be useful for their streams and daily communication with their fans.
──What do you think separates holoplus from other social media platforms?
The biggest difference is that holoplus is a space for fans and fans alone. External platforms, including YouTube and X, are essential for our talents to fulfill their dreams, like the desire to keep growing or try new things, but on such platforms, there are also a lot of people who are not necessarily fans, so they may find it really tough to remain on those platforms constantly. In contrast, holoplus is home to people who love hololive.

We also handle content moderation in-house so we can immediately delete any trolls or negative comments that are posted. A talent once told us that holoplus was a haven for them, so we manage it daily to ensure it stays that way.
We Want holoplus to Be the First Destination for New Fans
──holoplus celebrates its third anniversary this August. What has been the biggest change over the past three years?
Enabling the talents—in addition to holoplus users—to post content on holoplus from September 2025 was a significant change. At launch, holoplus was a fan community where users could interact with each other. While preserving this feature, we’ve brought the talents into the community. As a result, we can now create new forms of communication and entertainment inside the app.
──The fans might get a little nervous if the talents appear in a space that was previously just for them.
I think you’re right. That’s why we’ve separated the posting areas for the talents and users. We try to maintain a healthy distance between them while still allowing them to interact where appropriate. Striking the right balance is still quite challenging, but we do our best.
──What does current app usage look like?
The number of active users is very high, and retention rates are also strong. Once users download the app, many of them keep using it. I believe the app has high user engagement and currently serves as a space where our core fans gather, but we want it to be open to casual fans as well.
We want holoplus to be the first destination for people who have recently become interested in hololive production talents. “What kind of person is this talent?” “What is hololive production like?” “What kind of content do they create?”—New fans can find answers to all these questions in the app.
To make that happen, we are consciously creating paths for new fans to discover holoplus, such as encouraging talents to use the app during their streams.
──What kind of space do you want holoplus to be for hololive fans?
I want holoplus to be an essential app for “holoKatsu”—the activity of supporting one’s favorite hololive production talents. Forms of holoKatsu vary from fan to fan, such as watching streams, collecting merchandise, and attending live performances, but holoplus is a commonality when it comes to all these activities. We want holoplus to be an app our fans check every day and the starting point for all kinds of holoKatsu.
The Potential of holoplus: Fans All Over the World Can Interact Using the Automatic Translation Feature!
──Are there any memorable interactions or reactions that were generated purely because of holoplus?
Kureiji Ollie from hololive Indonesia has been serving as our global ambassador for holoplus since July 2025. She has fans not only in Indonesia but also in English-speaking regions and Japan, and thanks to holoplus’s automatic translation feature, fans from various countries can instantly react to her posts and send messages in support. This was a moment when we realized that we could connect beyond borders through holoplus.

──Are there any features you have implemented based on user feedback?
The feature allowing our talents to post their voice messages was created in response to user requests. Since their voices are a big part of their appeal, this feature has also been well received by talents. While voice messages are limited to one minute or less, this limitation may make them more interesting. I believe this feature holds a lot of potential.
We would like to continue accommodating requests from both users and talents as much as possible moving forward. Since holoplus is developed by our in-house team, I believe that being able to respond to those requests promptly and flexibly is also one of our strengths.
──Are there any goals in mind to make holoplus an even better community?
You may view “hololive production” as one massive community, but if you look inside the community, you can see that each talent has their own distinct world and fan base. I believe a “good community” is one where all these fan communities peacefully coexist and remains a comfortable space for every fan base, with no conflicts or excessive interactions between fans of different talents. I believe that this is important to keep in mind when managing holoplus.
The Supporter System to Support Our Talents’ Streams
──You mentioned the story about Kureiji Ollie earlier. Aside from that, have there been any memorable examples since implementing features that allow talent participation?
As a supporter of the radio show “Fox Clan Secret Meeting” hosted by Shirakami Fubuki and Omaru Polka, our team gathers user posts, some of which are featured on the show, and creates exclusive merchandise for listeners whose posts are read. Since our team belongs to the same company as the talents, we aren’t technically a “supporter,” but we are happy that Kureiji Ollie hosts her show using “PLUS SURVEY,” a polling feature within holoplus.

──You also had a collaborative project with “ホロ金策サバイバル2 (holo Minecraft Money-Making Survival 2)” this June.
Yes. This was a large-scale streaming event using Minecraft, hosted by Shishiro Botan. After each day’s stream ended, we published an article via holoplus reporting on the day’s activities. It was hard because we had to work until midnight after the stream to hold a briefing meeting and write the article. However, looking back, I think it was definitely a good project. We are committed to supporting fun, exciting initiatives through our official app.

──Hakui Koyori’s “朝こよ! (Morning Koyo!)”—streaming every Tuesday at 7:00 a.m.—also gathers user posts in holoplus.
“Morning Koyo!” is a stream that shares the latest news about hololive. Since holoplus is also a hub for various kinds of hololive information, we thought the two were a good match. Speaking of sharing information, our team also collaborates with holoAN. Since hololive’s first announcer, Harusaki Nodoka, used to serve as holoplus’s promotional leader, we still work closely with the announcers to support our fans’ holoKatsu.
──Could you also tell us about how holoplus coordinates with official shops and events?
We are exploring various ways to connect online experiences (the app) and offline ones (physical stores). For example, we have had initiatives in the past where users who visited a hololive production OFFICIAL SHOP, purchased merchandise, and posted a photo of it in holoplus had a chance to win a prize, or where those who won a lottery draw within holoplus could receive a prize at the event venue.

Encouraging COVER Employees to Use holoplus As Well
──Could you tell us about any memorable reactions from the talents?
When Kureiji Ollie marked her first anniversary as holoplus global ambassador, the holoplus Team organized a surprise by replacing all the banners within holoplus with thank-you messages to her. She was very pleased and even mentioned it during her stream, which made us really happy.
Our daily motivation comes from wanting both our talents and fans to feel like they’re “glad that holoplus exists.” In fact, our team members are constantly searching for holoplus on the Internet and social media (laughs). Whenever we find a post praising holoplus, we make sure to share it with the whole team.
──holoplus frequently runs collaborative projects with other internal departments at COVER. Is there anything that you are always mindful of?
I mentioned off the top that holoplus was an app for both our fans and talents, but I’d like to add one other thing: COVER employees are also stakeholders of holoplus. Therefore, I want internal teams and project members to use holoplus whenever they want to share information or interact with users. We make a conscious effort to ensure that not only our talents but also COVER employees recognize holoplus as a place where the most ardent and devoted fans gather.
What We Keep in Mind When Managing “the Best Team in the Company”
──From here, I’d like to ask you a bit more about your team members and yourself. First, what kind of background did you have before joining COVER?
In my previous jobs, I worked as an editor and an esports producer in the gaming industry. Back then, I viewed VTubers as “entities energizing the gaming industry,” and I analyzed why they were popular and what kind of people they were. As I watched talents’ activities after joining COVER, I gained a renewed sense of respect for them. Each talent has a distinct personality, and even though they are all categorized as “VTubers,” their activities are wide-ranging. Because their worlds and activities are completely different from one another, staff members often need knowledge across various domains, so it’s a challenging yet extremely rewarding job.
──What kind of team members make up the holoplus Team now?
The team consists of content and project planners, a product manager who oversees the entire product, engineers, and designers.
──As a manager, is there anything you keep in mind when leading the team?
I always make sure that no single team member shoulders everything alone. Since our talents’ activities differ from one another, there’s a limit to what one staff member can handle alone. I believe we can create something better by sharing everything within the team, working as a team, and handling challenges together as a team.
──What is the current atmosphere within the team like?
We communicate openly with each other, brainstorm together, and praise one another as we work to create something great. I believe we’re the best team in the company, and more importantly, every single member loves holoplus. This hasn’t changed since I joined the company and has been one of our strengths. Now that I’m the manager, I’d like to continue maintaining such a positive atmosphere.
──Is there anything specific you do to maintain that atmosphere?
We make sure to react to other members’ messages. For example, when a team member shares news like, “Something great happened to me!” I try to be the first to leave a thumbs-up stamp. It’s a tiny thing, but I think it matters because if they get a reaction to what they share, they’ll naturally want to share again.
The Future of holoplus: Evolving by Incorporating Feedback from Talents and Users
──holoplus continues to evolve as new features are constantly added. Is there anything you are mindful of when planning a new feature?
What I always keep in mind is that we want both our users and talents to have fun. As a specific example, holoplus allows users to tap “Like” on a post up to 100 times. You might think such a feature is meaningless because tapping it 100 times has the same effect as tapping it once. But the feature is designed for one to further express their love for a post as they manually tap “Like” 100 times.
There are also many kinds of animations that pop up when you press “Like,” and we even once replaced those animations with the talents’ faces for a limited time. Is there any point in doing that? Maybe not. But it simply lifts users’ moods, right? I believe that kind of playful spirit is important.
──Thank you very much. Finally, could you share any thoughts you have on the future of holoplus?
Actually, we deliberately choose not to set any medium- to long-term plans, because both our talents and their fan communities are continuing to change at a rapid pace. We’d like holoplus to keep evolving by constantly listening to the voices of our talents and users and steering the app in a direction that makes them happy in that moment.
