Special Talk from Former Weekly Shonen Jump Editor-in-Chief, Mr. Kazuhiko Torishima

On May 17, 2025, we held a special in-house talk featuring Mr. Kazuhiko Torishima, former Editor-in-Chief of Weekly Shonen Jump at SHUEISHA Inc., who played a key role in bringing numerous hit titles such as Dr. SLUMP and Dragon Ball to life. Drawing from his experience working alongside some of the industry’s top creators, Mr. Kazuhiko Toshima shared his valuable perspective on creative collaboration and what it takes to shape true compelling entertainment.

During the session, Mr. Kazuhiko Torishima shared the story behind the launch of Weekly Shonen Jump and spoke in detail about the three core principles that have shaped the magazine’s enduring success: giving opportunities to new talent, fostering a collaborative relationship between editors and creators, and making sure that reader feedback is valued most. The two-hour session – including a Q&A portion – covered a wide range of topics from behind-the-scenes insights into the manga creation process using actual panel and page layouts, to a thought-provoking look at how social media and smartphone culture has influenced modern manga.

The session received enthusiastic feedback from employees, with many commenting that they were able to reflect on the talk through the lens of their own work and reaffirmed the importance of communication. It proved a valuable opportunity for all participants to broaden their perspective and deepen their understanding of what it means to create and collaborate within the entertainment industry.
It was a meaningful and enriching opportunity for employees working toward our mission “Together, Let’s Create Culture Loved by All” and deeply connected to the values we strive to uphold in our day-to-day work.
